There are two different basketball programs for boys and girls interested in playing basketball when they are in 3rd and 4th grade. The two programs compliment each other and are designed to mesh together in a seamless fashion.
The purpose and objective is NOT to win every game, but instead to expose children to the game of basketball, work on skills and fundamentals, and have fun! We want to have every child that plays at these levels play the following year, and begin to develop a lifelong love for the game.
Here are the basics for both programs:
BYAA - after school/Saturday basketball
The Brainerd Youth Athletic Association offers basketball to all 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls who are in the Brainerd school district. This is an opportunity for children to begin to experience a more competitive basketball experience, and work on the skills needed to make them better players.
Teams are formed typically of children from the same elementary schools, with volunteer parent coaches. Practices are normally held after school at the elementary school, with games played Saturday mornings at Forestview Middle School in November and December. The season concludes before the Christmas Holiday school break. The information/registration form is located below on this page, and is also typically sent home to all children in 3rd and 4th grades. There is currently NO ONLINE registration option.
On Tuesday, October 17th there will be a final registration night, parent meeting and basketball clinic for the kids to be held at Forestview Middle School. Registration is at 5:30-6:00 pm, and the clinic will run from 6:00-7:00 pm.
More information is available by contacting Tim Hill below.
Brainerd Basketball Association - Travel basketball
The Brainerd Basketball Association travel basketball program for 3rd and 4th grade (boys and girls) begins AFTER the BYAA season concludes. If you and your child would like to continue playing basketball, continue to improve your fundamentals and skill, and continue to practice and play games, please also register for the BBA 3rd or 4th grade program.
All registrants will be placed on a team, coaches are typically parent volunteers, and all players will receive a reversible uniform and shorts to keep. Teams will normally practice two times per week, either after school or in the evening, and games will be played on weekends.
The tournaments typically allow teams to play at least three games, and most will be held on a single day (busy days and tired kids!). There are, however, times when a tournament might have games on both Saturday and Sunday.
The registration deadline for the 2018 season is December 23rd, 2017, with teams to be formed immediately afterward. Please click on REGISTRATION above to begin the registration for the travel basketball program that will begin in January 2018.
If you have any questions, please contact anyone listed on the Contact page, and we are always looking for positive parents to coach these children.
