Selection of Coaches
All coaching candidates must submit written applications for coaching positions. Members of the Board will interview all new head-coaching candidates to the program prior to their selection as head coach. It is the goal of the BBA to select the most qualified coaches for all grades and all teams. The best interest of the team and players will be primary objectives in the selection of any coach.
The Board will approve all assistant coaches. The assistant coaches selected should have similar basketball philosophies as the head coach to generate a sound working relationship that will benefit the players.
All coaches selected must understand the philosophy of the BBA program, as outlined in this document, and coach in accordance with it. It is the Board’s responsibility to ensure all coaches are aware and understand the mission and goals of the program as outlined herein.
Communicating with Parents and Players
Head coaches and assistant coaches must meet with the parents of the players on their team shortly after the teams are selected. At this meeting, the parents should be made aware of the mission, goals and philosophy of the program; the coach's objectives, the absences policy; the drugs / alcohol policy; the commitment level required and what the parents can do to help the coaches.
Any feedback regarding the operation of the BBA program is welcomed and should be funneled through any Board member. Issues specific to how a team is conducted should be first brought to the attention of the head coach. If the issue is not resolved at that level, the coach, parent or both will bring the issue to the attention of the Board for resolution. The right to communicate issues without concern of reprisal by coaches, other parents or other participants is obvious and is mandated by this program. All such issues must be treated with complete confidentiality at all times by all parties involved. Breaches of such confidentiality will not be tolerated.
The keeping of game statistics for each team is optional and should be done for the benefit of the coaching staff only. The publishing of statistics serves little purpose and is prohibited.
