About Us

Brainerd Basketball Association

Our Mission Statement
The Brainerd Basketball Association (BBA) is a community based volunteer organization whose objective is to foster and develop competitive basketball players in the communites of Brainerd and Baxter, Minnesota. With direction from the Brainerd Boys & Girls Varsity basketball coaches, the program's goal is to develop basketball players who have aspirations of playing competitive basketball in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). To develop players we offer a traveling basketball league for boys and girls in grades 3-8. Players in the program must have a greater commitment, in that each participant is expected to attend practices and weekend tournaments. This opportunity is open to all children who have aspirations of playing basketball at a competitive level.  We also offer a K-2 program.

Traveling Program - Grades 3 & 4
BBA is an optional, continuation of basketball which will focus on continuing skill development and competitive game play.   The travel program for 3rd grade and 4th grade starts after the BYAA (click for details) season has completed (normally around January 1st), and wraps up by the end of February.

This program is designed to allow children to extend their basketball season and experience a more competitive level of basketball while continuing to grow their skills.  However, the BBA wants to have an inclusive environment that will allow children to enjoy and want to play the game of basketball for years to come.

If the number of participants allow, multiple teams will be formed in each grade.  The goal is for the teams to be equally divided in umber and skill.  There are normally two practices per week for these teams.

Travel teams typically play four weekend tournaments in 3rd grade, and five tournaments in 4th grade.  The 4th grade teams will participate in the Paul Bunyan Classic hosted by the BBA each February.

Cost is $100 when registered before December 23, 2017.  Late registration is $125, and will only be accepted if space permits.  The BBA offers scholarships for any child/family that has a financial hardship.  Please contact the BBA to apply for a scholarship.

Traveling Program - Grades 5, 6, 7, & 8
This program is for boys and girls that are interested in playing at a higher competitive level.  There is a short after school basketball program at Forestview Middle School for 5th and 6th graders, which does not include any external competition.  Forestview does offer a basketball team program in 7th and 8th grade, and the BBA travel program builds on this program, with many of the same children and coaches participating in both.

Teams in these grades will travel to weekend tournaments determined by the association, and will also play in the Paul Bunyan Classic hosted by the BBA in February.  Practices typically begin in early November, with an attempt to have their first tournament in late November/early December.  The season also is normally completed by the end of February.

Depending on player numbers, we may have A and B teams at each level.  Tryouts will be scheduled in October, and all registered players will be evaluated by the Brainerd High School varsity coaching staffs to determine team placement.  These teams will play in tournaments that fit their competitive levels.

Cost is $295 when Registered before October 23, 207.  Late registration is $345.  The BBA is pleased to offer scholarships for any child/family that has a financial hardship.  Please contact the BBA to apply for a scholarship.
